Chili Lime Seitan Tacos
Chili Lime Seitan Tacos
I love the flavor of Chili Lime. It’s slightly spicy with a tangy kick of Lime flavor which I think goes perfect for Tacos. Seitan is basically “meat” made from wheat gluten. There are tons of recipes out there if you feel inclined to make your own (check out Connie’s Rawsome Kitchen) as well as premade Seitan options to purchase. I used a Chili Lime flavored Seitan from a company called Black Bird Foods but you can make these Tacos with anything. You can use any type of Seitan, Tempeh, Tofu or even Jack Fruit. A little oil and some Chili Lime seasoning blend such as Tajin or the Chili Lime from Tader Joe’s will do the trick.
Serves 2
Ingredients
4 Corn Tortillas
8oz Vegan protein such as Seitan, Tempeh or Tofu (I used Black Bird Foods Chili Lime Seitan)
2-3 tsp of Grape Seed Oil
1 1/2 tsp of Tajin or Chili Lime Seasoning
1 cup Red Cabbage shredded
2 Radishes sliced
1/2 Pickled Onions (see recipe below)
Fresh Cilantro for garnish
1/2 cup Vegan Sour Cream ( I used Tofutti )
1 tsp Lime Juice
Fresh Lime wedges for serving
Pickled Onions
1/3 sliced Red Onion
2 Tbsp of Sugar
1/4 cup Rice Vinegar
1/4 cup White Vinegar
2 Tbsp Water
pinch of Salt
Directions
1.Make the Chili Lime Cream by mixing together 1/2 tsp of the Chili Lime seasoning, Lime juice and Sour Cream. Refrigerate until ready to serve
2. Pickle the Onions by placing them ina small jar with the ingredients listed and give the jar a good shake. Place in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes but best over night or longer.
3. On med-high heat, sauté the Seitan in Oil until lightly crispy. If you are using any of the other options such as Jackfruit, Tempeh or Tofu make sure to crumble them first and add 1 tsp of the Chilii Lime seasoning.
4. Warm the Tortillas in a cast iron skillet or non stick pan until lightly browned. Make sure to flip once while heating.
5. Serve Tacos with a bit of cooked Seitan, shredded Cabbage, Radish Slices, Pickled Onions, Cilantro and Chili Lime Cream
